Stealthy Moth-inspired SoundBio-Inspired Acoustic Innovation

Our high-performing acoustic metamaterial technology reduces the health impact caused by noise specifically low frequency noise.

Our Solution

Moth-Inspired Noise Control Breakthrough

Attacus Acoustics offers noise control solutions to reduce the negative impact of boucing sounds and reverberation based on the stealth strategy for sound absorption employed by nocturnal moths to mitigate detection by the biosonar of their bat predators. Our acoustic technology performance is boosted by its bio-inspired metamaterial construction and can be as thin as 1/100 of the sound wavelength, far exceeding the performance of existing solutions.

Stealthy Noise Solutions

Our high-performing acoustic metamaterial offers high sound absorption over a broad range of frequencies covering even the difficult to absorb low frequency noise.

Bio-Inspired Sound Mastery

Our technology is up to x10 thinner at low frequencies than conventional sound absorbing technologies thanks to the metamaterial construction that enables performance that otherwise is impossible to attain from the base materials.

Acoustic Breakthrough

Our technology can deal with noise reverberation frequencies that are often untreated due to size constraints thanks to its capability to absorb sound at a thickness of just 1/100 of the wavelength.

Noise Pollution

Lighter, Thinner Silence

Noise pollution is the second highest environmental health risk causing annual societal costs in the billions of pounds and on average costing people in Western Europe more than one day of healthy life per year. Because of these negative impacts, and the fact that ever more people live in noisy cities, noise control is increasingly deployed in our ever-noisier environment.

As sound absorbers require a certain wavelength-dependent thickness to absorb sound frequencies (specifically low frequencies), existing sound absorbers are thick and/or heavy. Thinner and lighter solutions with comparable performance are strongly desirable in all relevant market sectors, including architectural/commercial (thinner and lighter), aerospace (lighter) and professional users (musicians/broadcasters) or simply for the people concerned about improving wellbeing at home.

Bio-Inspired Acoustic Innovation

Effective Low-Frequency Solutions

Appropriate acoustic treatments should cover a broad range of frequencies, yet the sound absorption of most products is rated from 250 Hz onwards. Low frequencies from engines, machines, appliances, or electric equipment are thus not effectively mitigated, and small interiors such as building, or transport cabins can suffer from high wall reflections (echoes) affecting communication intelligibility.

Among the reasons that low frequency noise is ignored, are the difficulty to suppress sound of such long wavelength and the resulting size and thickness that conventional solutions require to operate. Our technology is designed to overcome the sizing problem, thus enabling the engineer, acoustician, or architect the freedom to design spaces in a more efficient way by reducing the size footprint. Even the home-office interior would be acoustically enhanced to provide the user with a more pleasing quieter room.
